Legal obligation: EU representative for Asian companies
The AI Act (Art. 22) requires providers of high-risk AI systems not established in the EU to designate an authorised representative in Europe. The GDPR (Art. 27) imposes the same obligation on companies processing EU citizens' data. Non-compliance can result in a ban on marketing in the EU and fines of up to 7% of global annual turnover.
