Legal obligation: EU representative
The AI Act (Art. 22) requires providers of high-risk AI systems to appoint an authorised EU representative. The GDPR (Art. 27) requires companies not established in the EU that market products or services in Europe to appoint an authorised representative within the Union. Non-compliance may result in fines, a ban on marketing and joint liability.
